Don’t stick you head in the sand - Convert you copper lift line now
Don’t stick you head in the sand - If you are a management company with large portfolio of sites with lift lines, you WILL need to convert every lift line over to a digital line or swop to a GSM unit, and time is running out. There are an estimated 300,000 lift lines that still need to be converted, and we have already reached the point where the amount of time left in relation to orders/transfers is not sufficient to move all remaining copper lift lines services before 2025, meaning you could lose your lift line service. And from September 2023 (less than 400 days’ time, Openreach goes in to a full “Stop Sell”, meaning you cannot move an existing copper lift line to a new provider, install a new copper line or restart a stopped copper line. Effectually locking you into your current provider unless you moved to a new digital line.

Openreach lift line fault responce times

Openreach care levels can be changed at any point. However, the care level cannot be chnage with an open fault.

Clear by 23.59 next day, Monday to Saturday, excluding Public and Bank Holidays. For example, report Tuesday, clear Wednesday.
Care Level 3
£7.25 /month - Report 13.00, clear by 23.59 same day. Report after 13.00 clear by 12.59 next day, seven days a week, including Public and Bank Holiday.
Care Level 4

This care level we would normally recommend for important sites, like Hospitals, Care Homes, banks, MOD and Government buildings, as someone will be expected to be on site 24/7 to give the engineer access. The 6 hour fix time is all dependent on what the fault is, and if this can be fixed without the need for a multi skilled engineer or MBORC (Matters beyond Openreach's control) This will include things like underground faults, A55 traffic management, storm damage, flooding, damage to the line box in the street, cable damage. Openreach will expect the address to be open and manned 27/7, as they will turn up unannounced. An "Abortive Visit Charge" will be raised automatically if someone is not on site with keys and access to the comms room or location where the lift line telephone socket is located, at all times.
Changing Care Levels
Openreach care levels can be changed at any point. However, the care level cannot be changed with an open fault. A change of care level takes 5/10 working days for the new care level to become active. Please contact us on 0330 122 0000 to make a change to your current care level.

Lift line FAQ's

Do I need to contact the current line provider?
No, you won't need to contact the current provider - we'll do that for you. However, please make sure you are outside of any contract. Bering in mind BT Retal normally place a lift line in to a 24-month contract.
How long will it take to switch or install a new line?
Switching your current telephone service, or installing a new line usually takes about 10/14 days, (not including new sites) depending on the service you have selected. However, if there is a stopped line showing at the address, we can have this back into service within 3 working days. We'll normally let you know what day your service will be live within 48 hours of accepting your order. New line installations can be requested on an AM or PM time slot. Focused 2-hour time slots can also be booked, however there is an extra cost of £19.50 including VAT to do this.

How long will it take to install a new line in to a new site/build?
Unfortunately, there is no way to give you a timeline on new sites, as there are several factors that will determine this. But the very first thing you need to do is get the address listed with the Royal Mail, and this is clearly listed when yu do a lookup with them. The second thing is the site MUST of been handed over to you from the Openreach "New sites Team" All new installation requested for new lines into a new build will go to site survey, this is to make sure that the new sites team have completed their work correctly before the installation team will book a line installation.
This journey of installing a new line into a new build is always the same with Openreach, regardless of the provider you use.
How long will it take to hand over a site to a new owner?
The service contract is non-transferable and non-assignable Agreement. If you notify us to terminate your agreement and /or that you have handed over the management of the site/address and are no longer responsible for the line rental payments the service/s will be disconnected with immediate effect. Should the new owners wish to take over the service they must contact us at least 14 days before you give note to terminate the contract with us. Giving us time to complete the necessary checks before for we agree to provide a service. Please click HERE for the Openreach Lift lLne PDF for digital services.
When should I be looking to move to a VoIP based digital line?
We will be letting our copper-based Lift telephone customers know of the changes and the timescales involved in moving their services to the new SoGEA VoIP IP Cloud telephone service. It will be left to the customer, as to when to move their service, should they wish to do so. However, please be advised that we strongly recommend against leaving it too long, as the closer we get to the switch off date, the more customers will be trying to move, and there will be a point where the amount of time left in relation to orders is not sufficient to move remaining services, meaning you will lose your Lift telephone service and your telephone number. So please don't leave this to the last-minute thinking you have plenty of time, as 300,000 million other Lift line customers will be thinking the same thing.
What are the potential issues with moving to Digital Phone Line?
First we need to make clear the division of duty: lift alarm hardware maintenance falls to the lift company,
while the router and battery backup are the responsibility of the lift owner, and NOT the Equipment supplier.
Potential issues with moving to Digital Phone Lines are: A loss of support for high speed Dual Tone Multi Frequency
(DTMF) signalling - The router or Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA) will require a battery backup - If FTTP is fitted the ONT will need a battery backup as well - Routers can lock up, and may need a reboot - Battery backup's will need to be checked and replaced regularly. Please Click HERE for more information.
What payment methods do you except?
We only accept Direct Debit for monthly service payments, or line rental can paid yearly in advance. Our Direct Debits are collected by GoCardless which are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority as an Authorized Payment Institution. Your payments are protected by the Direct Debit guarantee. Direct Debits are set up directly via our website or by email. No more filling out paper mandates and posting them back. Services and paying via Direct Debit are subject to status and or credit check.
We require a monthly Invoice to be uploaded through our suppler portal. Can you do this?
Unfortunately, not. The resources needed for us to upload invoices through/into third party invocing management portals is impractical and time consuming.
